Catawba Attachments Plugger Core Aerator

All right, guys, we’re back with Catawba Attachments, and today we’re showcasing our plugger. This model is a six-footer with several unique features.
Overview
The Catawba plugger (core aerator) is built for durability and easy serviceability. The lineup includes 4-foot, 5-foot, 6-foot, and 7-foot models and is offered in both Category 1 and Category 2 quick-hitch compatible versions.
Construction & Key Features
We build the drum from 3/16-inch thick rolled steel and reinforce it with 3/16-inch end plates and exterior plates. A full-length 1-inch shaft runs through the drum for strength. We use American-made tines that are durable and easily replaceable. During fabrication, we etch guide lines for pipe placement and spike locations to ensure consistent assembly and spike spacing.
- 3/16″ rolled-steel drum with 3/16″ end plates
- Full-length 1″ shaft through drum
- American-made, replaceable tines
- Drum fill plug to add water for ballast

Options & Sizes
This plugger is available in 4′, 5′, 6′, and 7′ widths. We manufacture both three-point hitch (Category 1 and Category 2 quick-hitch compatible) versions and a pull-behind model for lawnmowers, UTVs, and ATVs. The pull-behind frame is built to the same drum and spike standards but uses a different hitch frame to suit towing machines.
For information on how quick-hitch systems speed hookup and make attachments easier to use, see our Quick Hitch guide: Quick Hitch: A Must Have Time Saver.

Weight & Filling Guidance
The drum includes a plug so you can add water to increase ballast and penetration. Some operators use sand, but Catawba does not typically recommend sand because it can make the unit extremely heavy and increase the risk of the drum sinking too deep in soft ground. If you fill with water, remember that freezing temperatures can cause the drum to burst; drain the drum before winter storage.
Mounting, Adjustment & Manufacturing Notes
The plugger mounts on a heavy-duty frame and is quick-hitch compatible for fast hookup. The adjustable support legs slot in without pins—just wiggle and drop into place—making storage and removal quick. Our shop uses two Blazers lasers during fabrication to improve precision and strength while streamlining production.
Maintenance & Care
After use, clean soil and vegetation from the drum and spikes. If you added water for ballast, drain the drum for storage—especially before freeze conditions. Store the plugger in a dry place when possible to protect tines and finish. The adjustable legs allow compact storage in a garage or shed.
