Heavy Duty Roundback Rotary Cutter

I’m Cody with Catawba Attachments, and Will is here with me to walk through our new rotary cutter. We’ll show you what changed in the design, why we built it this way, and what those changes mean once the cutter is actually out in the field.
Why this rotary cutter stands out
Rotary cutters are common across the market, with numerous brands and options available. So, what sets ours apart? We examined the competition and made improvements where it matters most. Instead of the standard 11-gauge or 10-gauge deck, we upgraded to 3/16-inch thick Grade 50 steel. We also reinforced the mounting plate with the same Grade 50 steel for added durability. Additionally, we’ve included extra mounting holes to accommodate a larger gearbox—this model comes with a 40-horsepower gearbox, but you have the option to upgrade to a 75-horsepower gearbox.

Key features at a glance
Here’s what we focused on in the new design:
- 3/16″ Grade 50 steel deck and reinforced mounting plate for stronger fatigue life.
- Rounded-back body for improved material and debris discharge.
- Replaceable Quin steel wear bars designed to bend before critical components—simple four-bolt replacement.
- Replaceable 3/8″ Quin skid shoes with fully welded bottom plates for long life.
- Solid laminated tail wheel (no rubber) to avoid flats.
- Metal PTO cover that slides fully off for easy access to the PTO shaft.
- Floating hitch built-in to allow vertical movement over uneven terrain.
Models, hitch compatibility, and adjustments

Our unit is quick-hitch compatible. The 4- and 5-foot models come standard with a Category 1 hitch, while the 6-foot model includes both Category 1 and Category 2 compatibility. Adjusting the cutting height is straightforward—rather than using bent brackets, the height is adjusted with a simple tube and bolt system that’s easy to set and maintain.

Maintenance, serviceability, and parts
Serviceability was a priority in the design. Wear parts like the Quin steel bars and skid shoes are replaceable with simple bolt removal. The metal PTO cover slides off completely for faster access. We use the solid laminated tail wheel to avoid flat-related downtime. These choices reduce repair time in the field and minimize the need for special tools.

Who this is for
This cutter is aimed at owners who want a heavier, longer-lasting implement rather than a low-cost disposable unit. If you need an attachment that’s built for frequent use, easy serviceability, and a long service life, this design is intended to meet that need.
At Catawba Attachments, we build products to last a lifetime. Our “standard” rotary cutter is heavier and more durable than many competitors’ so-called “heavy-duty” models. We’re not interested in producing cheap, disposable equipment. Our goal is to create attachments that last for generations—so one day, you can hand this cutter down to your grandkids and say, “I bought this 50 years ago, and it’s still running strong.”
