The Catawba Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple is built for subcompact tractors that need a lighter 54-inch grapple for brush, limbs, loose debris, small trees, and small boulders. At 212 lbs, this grapple helps preserve loader lift capacity while still giving smaller tractors useful cleanup power around the property.

Built from USA Hardox® 500 Tuf steel, the Subcompact 54 combines strength, durability, and low attachment weight. The 28-inch jaw opening gives you room to clamp loose material, while the mechanical stop allows back dragging loose debris with the lid and helps protect the cylinders from damage.

Notice: A third function kit or compatible hydraulic control option is required to operate the grapple lid.

54-Inch Grapple Width The 54-inch width gives smaller tractor owners more working coverage than a narrow 48-inch grapple while still keeping the attachment manageable for subcompact loaders.
212 lb Lightweight Build At 212 lbs, this grapple helps preserve loader lift capacity on smaller tractors compared with heavier grapple options.
USA Hardox® 500 Tuf Steel Built from high-quality USA Hardox® 500 Tuf steel for strength, durability, and a strong strength-to-weight ratio in a compact grapple design.
28-Inch Jaw Opening The large 28-inch jaw opening gives the grapple room to clamp brush, limbs, loose roots, small trees, rocks, small boulders, and other cleanup material.

Excellent Product. Perfect light weight, hardly notice its on the tractor. Have had the Grapple for about a week and have definitely put it through the ringer and not even a scratch!

Super Quick shipping, super easy to work with. (Only downside, I didnt specify two female connections, comes with one of each which is probably standard for most 3rd functions, mine required female).

Common uses

What Can This Tractor Grapple Be Used For?

Subcompact Brush Cleanup

  • Clear brush, limbs, branches, and loose vegetation from small acreage, wooded edges, fence lines, and overgrown areas.
  • The lighter 54-inch grapple width helps smaller tractors handle cleanup work without stepping into a heavier compact tractor grapple.
  • Good for routine property cleanup where material needs to be grabbed, clamped, and carried instead of pushed with a bucket.

Storm Limb and Branch Removal

  • Pick up fallen limbs, branches, small logs, and storm debris after weather events or tree cleanup.
  • The 28-inch jaw opening gives the grapple room to clamp loose piles while the hydraulic lid helps keep irregular material under control.
  • Best for lighter storm cleanup that matches the lift capacity of the tractor and loader.

Loose Rocks, Roots, and Debris

  • Move loose roots, small rocks, small boulders, and mixed cleanup debris from trails, driveways, field edges, and work areas.
  • The rake-style bottom helps gather larger debris while allowing loose dirt and smaller material to fall through.
  • Use the grapple for loose material that can be clamped and carried; it is not intended for pulling embedded stumps from the ground.

Tight-Area Property Maintenance

  • Work around barns, tree lines, trails, driveways, gardens, and smaller properties where a wider grapple may be harder to maneuver.
  • The 54-inch width gives more coverage than a narrow 48-inch grapple while still staying manageable for subcompact tractor loaders.
  • Useful for cleanup jobs where visibility, attachment weight, and loader capacity all matter.

Small Acreage and Trail Cleanup

  • Clean up small acreage, trails, hunting paths, fence rows, and wooded lots by grabbing loose brush, limbs, roots, and debris.
  • The lightweight 212 lb build helps preserve usable loader lift capacity for smaller tractors.
  • Good for regular land maintenance, field-edge cleanup, and keeping paths open around rural property.

Subcompact Loader Capacity Work

  • Choose this grapple when attachment weight matters and the tractor needs a lighter rake grapple for everyday cleanup.
  • The 212 lb design helps leave more available loader capacity for the material being carried.
  • Best suited for brush, limbs, loose roots, small logs, rocks, and debris that fit within the tractor loader rating.

Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple FAQs

What is the Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple designed for?
The Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple is designed for smaller tractors that need a lighter grapple for brush, limbs, loose debris, and property cleanup.
Why choose a subcompact rake grapple instead of a wider model?
A smaller, lighter grapple can help preserve loader lift capacity on subcompact tractors while still giving the operator useful control over brush and debris.
Can the Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple move logs?
It can help move smaller logs, limbs, and loose debris, but the tractor loader capacity should always be considered before lifting heavy material.
Is this the same as a John Deere subcompact grapple?
No. This standard Subcompact 54 Rake Grapple is different from the John Deere compatible version. Check your loader hookup before ordering.
Do I need a third function valve kit?
Most grapple attachments require a third function valve kit or hydraulic control option so the lid can open and close from the tractor.
