Purple Heart Homes – Memorial Day Giving

Celebrating the Impact: How Our Reverse Memorial Day Sale Made a Difference
At Catawba Attachments, we believe that honoring our veterans means more than words. It means action. Back during our Reverse Memorial Day Sale, instead of offering discounts, we pledged to charge full price and donate all proceeds to Purple Heart Homes, a nonprofit providing safe, accessible housing for service-connected, disabled, and aging veterans. Today, we’re excited to share the results, the impact, and what this means moving forward.
From Sale to Support: What We Did

For Memorial Day, we decided to do something different.Instead of running the usual holiday discounts, we held a reverse sale. Everything stayed at full price, and 100% of the proceeds went to Purple Heart Homes. The idea was pretty simple. Memorial Day already brings a lot of attention to veterans and their service, so we wanted the sale to do more than move equipment. We wanted the money spent during that period to go toward something useful for veterans who need help at home.Customers, partners, and our own team made that possible..
The Result: $4,500 Donated
By the end of the Reverse Memorial Day Sale, we raised and donated $4,500 to Purple Heart Homes. That’s $4,500 that will go directly toward transforming homes, boosting accessibility, and helping veterans live more safely in their own homes.
Seeing that number on the check made the whole idea feel real. What started as a different approach to a holiday sale turned into money that can now be put to work for veterans and their families.
What Those Dollars Will Do
Purple Heart Homes works with veterans via two main programs.
Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) helps veterans who already own their homes but need changes made so they can continue living there safely. Depending on the home and the veteran, that might include a wheelchair ramp, wider doorways, safer walkways, bathroom improvements, or repairs to heating and cooling systems.
Veteran Home Opportunity Program (VHOP) helps veterans whose housing situation calls for something different. That may include renovated rental housing, homeownership opportunities, donated homes, manufactured homes, or other housing solutions.
A donation like ours can support projects such as accessibility improvements, repairs, weatherization, or other work needed to make a home safer.
Every project is different, so $4,500 will not look the same in every house. What matters is that it can now help Purple Heart Homes continue doing that work.

Reflections: What We Learned & Why It Matters
One of the biggest things we learned was how easily an ordinary purchase can become something more.Customers were already shopping for equipment. During the reverse sale, that same purchase also helped support work being done for veterans. We also saw how important it was to be clear about where the money was going. People knew there was no discount involved. They knew the proceeds were being donated, and they knew which organization was receiving them. Most of all, the fundraiser acted as a reminder that thanking veterans is only part of the picture. For anyone coping with mobility problems, an unsafe set of stairs or a bathroom that is difficult to use can affect everyday life. A ramp, repair, or other home improvement may seem fairly simple from the outside, but for the person living there it can make a real difference. That is why working with an organization already doing this kind of work mattered to us.
Honoring the Moment: Donation Ceremony

We recently had the chance to present the $4,500 donation to Purple Heart Homes.
It was good to finally put a check behind everything customers had helped make happen during the Reverse Memorial Day Sale.We also learned more about the work these donations support and how home improvements can change day-to-day life for veterans who need them.Members of the Catawba Attachments team attended the presentation, along with others who helped support the effort.More than anything, it gave us a chance to see where the fundraiser had led.We do not want this to be something we did once and then forgot about. We are looking at other ways Catawba can support worthwhile causes, whether that means another fundraiser, volunteer work, or a future reverse sale.
What Comes Next
We plan to keep looking for ways to use the Catawba community to support good work beyond our own shop.If you want to support Purple Heart Homes directly, there are other ways to get involved. You can volunteer, donate, help connect veterans with available resources, or help more people learn about the work the organization is doing.Sometimes, spreading the word helps the next veteran or family find the support they need.
Thank You
To everyone who purchased during our Reverse Memorial Day Sale, thank you.The same goes to everyone who shared the fundraiser, helped spread the word, or worked behind the scenes to make it happen. And to Purple Heart Homes, thank you for the work you continue to do for veterans and their families.Together, those full-price purchases turned into a $4,500 donation that can now go toward safer, more accessible homes for veterans. That made this sale worth doing.
